48 Hours in Squamish: The No-BS Local Itinerary

By Best Sea to Sky·

Most people see Squamish from the window of their car as they rush toward Whistler. They see the massive granite face of the Chief, grab a quick coffee, and keep driving.

They're missing the best parts.

As someone who has lived and worked in this corridor for 20 years, I've seen the "tourist version" and the "local version." This is the latter.

Day 1: Granite and Glass

06:00 AM — The Early Bird

Skip the hotel breakfast. Head straight to Cloudbreak or Galileo. You want to be caffeinated before the sun hits the peaks.

08:00 AM — The Chief (The Smart Way)

Everyone hikes the First Peak. If you want the views without the crowds, head toward the Slhanay or take the Sea to Sky Gondola early and explore the backcountry trails at the top.

01:00 PM — Riverside Lunch

Grab a sandwich in town and head to the Mamquam River. It's the perfect spot to reset before the afternoon session.

04:00 PM — The Post-Trail Pint

This is non-negotiable. Head to Backcountry Brewing for a "Widowmaker" or hit A-Frame for a cabin-vibe patio session.

Day 2: Water and Woods

09:00 AM — The Hidden Falls

Skip the main line at Shannon Falls. Drive 15 minutes north to Brandywine Falls. Pro tip: Follow the trail past the main lookout to the Daisy Lake viewpoint — it's where the locals go to actually hear the birds.

12:00 PM — Downtown Discovery

Explore the local shops on Cleveland Ave. Avoid the generic souvenirs; look for the local makers.

03:00 PM — Porteau Cove Sunset

On your way back south, stop at Porteau Cove. Walk the pier as the sun dips behind the mountains of the Howe Sound. It's the best free show in the province.
