Movies and TV Shows Filmed in the Sea to Sky Corridor (2026 Guide)
British Columbia is called "Hollywood North" for good reason, and the Sea to Sky corridor is one of its most filmed stretches of highway. The dramatic mountains, ancient forests, thundering waterfalls, and charming small towns along Highway 99 have doubled for everything from Northern California to ancient Greek mythology.
Here are the biggest movies and TV shows filmed in the Sea to Sky corridor — and exactly where to find the locations they used.
Virgin River (Netflix, 2019–Present)
This is the big one. Netflix''s hit romantic drama is set in a fictional Northern California town, but almost everything you see on screen is filmed in British Columbia — and Squamish plays a starring role.
Squamish Filming Locations
The Watershed Grill = Jack''s Bar. The most iconic location from the show. The exterior of Jack''s Bar — the heart and soul of Virgin River — is actually The Watershed Grill in Brackendale, just north of Squamish. The restaurant sits beside the Squamish River with sweeping views of the mountains and Brackendale Eagles Provincial Park. You can sit on the same deck you''ve seen in dozens of episodes. The interior bar scenes are filmed on a studio set in Vancouver, so the inside looks different from what you see on screen — but the exterior, the deck, and those river views are exactly as they appear in the series.
Shannon Falls = The waterfall scenes. Those dramatic waterfall shots in the early seasons? That''s Shannon Falls Provincial Park, BC''s third-highest waterfall at 335 metres. It''s just a 5-minute walk from the parking lot along the Sea to Sky Highway, about 10 minutes south of Squamish.
Brandywine Falls also appears in several establishing shots throughout the series. This 70-metre waterfall plunging into a volcanic canyon is located between Squamish and Whistler.
Sea to Sky Gondola. Later seasons feature the Sea to Sky Gondola summit views and the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, which makes an appearance in season five.
Smoke Bluffs Park. The famous climbing area in Squamish was used for rock climbing scenes in Season 7.
Klahanie Campground doubles as the Fitches'' bed and breakfast in the series.
Railway Museum of British Columbia. The Virgin River train station and market scenes were filmed at this heritage rail museum in Squamish.
Plan Your Virgin River Tour
Most of the Squamish filming locations are along the Sea to Sky Highway and can be visited in a single day. Start at Shannon Falls, ride the Sea to Sky Gondola, drive to Brackendale for lunch at the Watershed Grill (aka Jack''s Bar), and finish at Smoke Bluffs Park. Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+, 2023–Present)
Disney+''s adaptation of Rick Riordan''s bestselling fantasy series has filmed extensively in and around the Sea to Sky corridor. The show follows young demigod Percy Jackson on quests to prevent wars among the Olympian gods — and the forests and mountains of BC provide the perfect mythological backdrop.
Sea to Sky Filming Locations
Minaty Bay (near Britannia Beach). This private bay just south of Squamish along the Sea to Sky Highway has been used as a key Camp Half-Blood location across multiple seasons, including beach and waterfront scenes.
Mamquam Forest Service Road, Squamish. Popular for its hiking trails and stunning views, this area doubled as Camp Half-Blood training grounds in the series.
Sea to Sky Highway. Various locations along the highway have been used for establishing shots and driving sequences throughout the series.
Season 3 filmed from August 2025 through March 2026 in the region, with locations including Britannia Beach and other spots along the corridor. The show continues to be one of the biggest productions filming in British Columbia.
While You''re Here
Minaty Bay and Britannia Beach are right along the highway between Vancouver and Squamish. Pair a visit with a stop at the Britannia Mine Museum and continue north to explore Squamish.
Happy Gilmore (1996)
Adam Sandler''s beloved golf comedy was filmed entirely in British Columbia, and one of its most famous scenes takes place right on the Sea to Sky Highway.
The Location
Furry Creek Golf and Country Club. The iconic scene where Happy Gilmore and Bob Barker get into a fistfight? That was filmed at Furry Creek Golf and Country Club, located along the Sea to Sky Highway about 40 minutes north of Vancouver. The spectacular course sits alongside Howe Sound with mountain views that make it one of the most scenic golf courses in Canada. Hole 9 is even nicknamed "Happy''s Hole" in honour of the film.
The famous fight scene took three days to film. Bob Barker, who was 73 at the time, performed many of his own stunts — he had studied Tang Soo Do martial arts for eight years.
While Happy Gilmore 2 (2025) filmed in New Jersey, you can still play the original course that started it all. Furry Creek is open to the public and offers some of the most breathtaking views of any golf course in BC.
Make a Day of It
Furry Creek is on the highway between Vancouver and Squamish, making it an easy stop on a Sea to Sky road trip. Play a round, then continue north to Squamish for craft beer and hiking.
The Social (CTV)
CTV''s popular daytime talk show The Social features opening shots that look remarkably like the view from the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish. The sweeping mountain and ocean panorama that opens the show captures exactly the kind of stunning scenery that makes the Sea to Sky corridor famous.
Other Notable Productions
The Sea to Sky corridor has been used in countless other film and TV productions over the years. Vancouver''s film industry generates over $2 billion in provincial GDP annually, and the highway between Vancouver and Whistler is one of the most frequently filmed stretches of road in the country.
Keep an eye out for film crews along the highway — on any given week, there''s likely a major production shooting somewhere in the corridor. Local residents in Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton are used to seeing camera trucks and trailers parked along Government Road and the highway pullouts.
Plan Your Filming Locations Tour
All of these locations are accessible along the Sea to Sky Highway and can be visited in a day trip from Vancouver or as part of a longer stay in the corridor.
